Eddie Hearn has spoken out since Tyson Fury’s sensational win over Deontay Wilder.
The Matchroom kingpin has insisted that the Gypsy King has more to do in order to be classed as the ‘standout’ heavyweight and believes Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte have what it takes to beat him.
Last Saturday, October 9 saw what has already been dubbed as one of the greatest heavyweight boxing fights of all time.
Despite being knocked to the canvas twice in the same round, Fury rose up to dominate the fight and finish his opponent via KO in the 11th round, achieving three knockdowns in total.
The clash showcased the best of what boxing has to offer, with both fighters showing their persistence and dedication to get the win.
Fury was undoubtedly the most convincing fighter on the night, and saw himself the overall winner of the trilogy, winning two out of the three fights. The Englishman even named himself the “greatest heavyweight of his era” following his remarkable display in Las Vegas.
However, promoter Hearn still has his reservations on Fury’s legacy.
He believes that in order to be classed as a true legend of the currency heavyweight era, he would need to beat Whyte, Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. White, who is Fury’s mandatory challenger for the WBC belt, is due to fight Otto Wallin this month.
"He’s only beat one guy in the last three years," Hearn told iFL TV.
"Maybe he beats everybody and goes down as one of the great heavyweights of all time, but to do that you have to beat the fighters of your era, you can’t just fight one guy.
"So he needs to fight AJ, he needs to fight Usyk, he needs to fight Dillian, he needs to fight maybe in time [Filip] Hrgovic who is coming through the ranks, or [Joe] Joyce, whoever is there.
"He needs to stay active, he’s always talked about activity being important. Andre Ward saying, ‘no just wait’… what wait another year, so you have three fights in three years?
"And is it just me that thinks Tyson Fury against Dillian Whyte is a massive fight? That does a million-and-a-half pay-per-view buys in the UK, it sells out a stadium in the UK, it’s a massive fight, and he’s mandatory, you’re champion… take care of your mandatory and do it in a fight that’s going to make you a fortune."
