Tyson Fury has 'earned the right' to wait for one last hurrah with Anthony Joshua and then stroll off into the sunset with his family, according to close friend Ricky Hatton.

Fury went 2-0 up in his three-part series against Deontay Wilder at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

And now that the dust has finally settled, Hatton believes Fury could retire as there isn't 'much more he can do in his career' other than waiting for the winner of Joshua's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Hatton wrote in his Metro column: 'There is only one box for him to tick now I think and that is the all-British title showdown with AJ.

'If that doesn’t happen, then I don’t think there is much more he can do in his career.

'He beat Wladimir Klitshchko, went through all his problems, came back and won the title again.

'He’s had three thrilling fights with Wilder. If he wanted to hang them up now, I don’t think anyone would blame him.

'But knowing Tyson how I know him, he will want to sign off his career by beating AJ.

'But again, it wouldn’t surprise me either if it doesn’t materialise anytime soon and we see the end of Tyson in the ring. And he can hold his head up proud if that happens.'

But the Brit has urged the Gypsy King to wait for the winner of AJ and Usyk's rematch before retiring.

Usyk, 34, came awfully close to stopping AJ in front of 62,000 fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on September 25.

He will have to wait a little while longer before he gets his hands on AJ again, however.

Hatton continued: 'Tyson holds all the cards. He is the lineal champion and these fights with Wilder have cemented that status of him being the main man – along with AJ falling away.

Tyson Fury celebrates with Frank Warren and Bob Arum after beating Deontay Wilder

'He is the one they all want to fight. But he is reaching a certain stage in his career now.

'Speaking as a mate of Tyson’s, I don’t want to see him keep going through the mill like that, winning wars like that.

'I think he has earned the right to wait for that last meaningful fight which in his mind is the AJ one and then enjoy his retirement.

'For Paris and his family too, seeing him go to the well every time… she must be thinking the exact same. But we just have to wait and see and hope it works out.'
