David Luiz believes that Chelsea are playing some of their most exciting football in years, and while the side have suffered some setbacks this season, they are developing into a successful squad that can play together as a team for long-term success.

Last season, while Chelsea had a fantastic start to their campaign, the Blues were unable to keep it up, and went through a huge lull over Christmas that cost them the title.

But Luiz believes that with Andre Villas-Boas in the managerial role, Chelsea have found a new lease on life that will soon start to bare fruits in both the Barclays Premier League and Champions League.

“I haven't enjoyed watching Chelsea this much for at least two or three years and we're playing amazing football,” he told Chelsea magazine.

“Daniel Sturridge is like a new signing, Fernando Torres is coming good, Ramires is unreal and Juan Mata is a genius. I think everybody is genuinely excited about what we can achieve.

“Villas-Boas has brought in younger players but Lamps and JT are still doing it, which is amazing, Ashley Cole just runs forever in every game and Petr Cech is the best keeper in the world.

“I'm really optimistic about what we can achieve and this could be our year for the Champions League.”

While Chelsea have had a tough week, losing to Arsenal 5-3 at the weekend and then drawing with Genk 1-1 in the Champions League, Luiz’s optimism is a much needed force at Stamford Bridge, as the side prepare to take on Blackburn this weekend and get their season back on track.
