Patrice Evra has said he is 'sick' of seeing Lionel Messi win the Ballon d’Or and would much rather N'Golo Kante or Jorginho won it this year.

Despite his age, the 34-year-old has enjoyed an incredible year of football - winning the Copa America with Argentina and finishing as the top scorer in La Liga.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner has struggled with injury after leaving Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain this summer but scored his first goal for the club in a 2–0 Champions League win over Manchester City on September 28.

But Evra doesn't believe Messi deserves to win the Ballon d'Or this year, as he feels that Chelsea stars Kante and Jorginho are far more deserving candidates to pick up the prestigious award next month at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

Both players helped Thomas Tuchel's side transform their fortunes after a tricky start as the Blues won last season's Champions League final against Pep Guardiola's men at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto on May 29.

"In my opinion this Ballon d'Or is for Kante or Jorginho... I'm sick of giving it to Messi," Evra told Marca.

"What did he win last year? Okay, the Copa America. With Barcelona what did he do?"

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also snubbed the Barça legend, insisting his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo should be recognised for his efforts.

“Cristiano deserves it," he added.

“This year he's broken record after record.”

Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, is rather unsurprisingly also in agreement with the legendary manager.

Speaking to France Football, he said: “The Ballon d’Or has only one name, Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He has never deserved it as much as this year. Top scorer in Serie A and at the Euros. He holds the record for goals in Champions League and is the only one who has won everything in three different countries.

“He is the best scorer in the history of football. It is a decisive thing, it must be so for the trophy, because he continues to prove to be the best player in history.”
