Pep Guardiola gave a hilarious response to a reporter during a press conference ahead of Manchester City's Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday.

Guardiola was responding to questions from the media ahead of their all-important clash with the Clarets earlier this afternoon.

Referring to the former Barcelona man's playing days in La Liga, the journalist said: "When you got left out, if you got left out, did you go to the manager and bang on his door or did you just accept it?"

It left the City boss chuckling before he delivered a quip in a way that only he could.

He replied: "Look Simon, I was an exceptional player.

"I was never on the bench, I was always playing, I'm sorry, so I can not answer this question.

"I was so good, you are so young you don't remember."

This isn't the first time Guardiola has spoken about his decorated playing career.

In an interview with Post United last year, he said: "At 23, 24 years is when I felt better. I was a slow midfielder, I had no shot, no dribbling, poor aerial play, I wasn't fast...

"But I survived, the way Barcelona played helped me. Sometimes I see myself in a game from that time and know that I wouldn't be playing today even as a joke.

"Now they [footballers] are prepared much better. Now, with the way we take care of them and the technology of training, physios, doctors all help us."

Guardiola's side kept the gap between themselves and league leaders Liverpool fairly narrow as they ran out 2-0 winners over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking after the victory at the Etihad, he said: “After the international break it’s always a little bit difficult to come to a rhythm and I know how good Burnley are.

"They did really well, they have good players and we played a good 15-20 minutes in the first-half, we created chances and the last 20 minutes we lost some tempo.

"We did well in the second half and played really well and could’ve scored more goals. Good result, after the international break we take the victory and look what’s next.

“We run and fight for every ball, Burnley play for long balls and they’re a master at this. You have to defend set pieces well and anything could’ve happened if Chris Wood had scored that goal near the end. We had chances but couldn’t score more unfortunately.

“The importance is improving our game I am satisfied that the second-half was better than first. The team showed me the way we want to play and the shape we want to play in.

"All the guys gave everything, it doesn’t matter if the performance is good or not. It’s important that you fight for your teammates and everyone was incredible.”
