It would be "beautiful" to see Kylian Mbappe join Liverpool and create a hugely successful partnership with Mohamed Salah, according to journalist Emmet Gates.

What's the latest news involving Mbappe?

Mbappe joined Paris Saint-Germain on an initial loan deal from Monaco in 2017 and, following a permanent move worth £166million, has entered the final year of his contract with the French side.

The 22-year-old told French media outlet RMC he decided in the summer that he wanted to leave his current employers in favour of a new challenge elsewhere.

Real Madrid saw bids rejected during the summer transfer window despite PSG admitting Mbappe wanted to depart.

But Florentino Perez, Real Madrid's president, is refusing to give up on attracting the France international to the Santiago Bernabeu and told Spanish newspaper El Debate, via Sky Sports, that a deal could be struck when the transfer market reopens in January.

However, Liverpool are among other clubs - including Premier League rivals Manchester City - looking to acquire Mbappe's services.

What has Emmet Gates said about Mbappe?

Gates believes opponents would be terrified of facing Liverpool if boss Jurgen Klopp had Mbappe, who is valued at £144million by Transfermarkt, and Salah among his options.

Salah has already got the campaign off to an impressive start and, along with Leicester City frontman Jamie Vardy, went into the weekend as the Premier League's top goalscorer after finding the back of the net six times.

While Mbappe and Salah forming a partnership is a mouthwatering prospect for Gates, he does not believe Fenway Sports Group would commit to signing the Paris Saint-Germain star.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "It would be beautiful to see Salah and Mbappe in the same side. Having them on either wing would be terrifying.

"But it would upset Liverpool's wage structure so much. Maybe you could make allowances because this is Kylian Mbappe and Mo Salah.

"They could say they will buy the players that are going to dig us out of holes and supporters will have no problem with that but I don't think Fenway Sports Group will go for that amount of outlay every single week."

How has Mbappe performed so far this season?

Despite question marks over his future, Mbappe has scored five goals and notched six assists in 12 PSG appearances.

He also enjoyed a fruitful international break as he scored and grabbed an assist in their Nations League semi-final and final clashes against Belgium and Spain respectively.

As a result, France got their hands on the Nations League trophy last weekend.
