Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United didn't have much to cheer about against Leicester City. The Red Devils were hoping to get their Premier League form back on track after taking just one point from home ties with Aston Villa and Everton, but their domestic woes show no sign of ending. That's because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were on the receiving end of a damning 4-2 scoreline at the King Power Stadium despite having initially taken the lead through Mason Greenwood.

Leicester 4-2 Man Utd

However, goals from Youri Tielemans and ÇaÄŸlar Söyüncü either side of the half-time interval saw the game flipped on its head with Leicester entering the final few minutes leading 2-1.

And even though Marcus Rashford gave United a brief glimmer of hope by levelling the scores at 2-2, the Foxes responded within 54 seconds to regain the lead courtesy of Jamie Vardy's strike.

Throw in Patson Daka's first Premier League goal for good measure and United were left licking their wounds once again despite having arguably the greatest striker in history leading their line.

A day to forget for Ronaldo

Now, it's worth saying that very few United players could hold their head up high on such a gutting night's work, but we can't escape the fact that it wasn't exactly a vintage Ronaldo performance.

Slapped with a 6.8 match rating by SofaScore - the second-lowest of any United star playing beyond the back four - Ronaldo lost possession six times and registered just one shot on target.

Marry that to three fouls, one offside, zero aerial duels won and just one ground duel won to really get the picture that Ronaldo wasn't at his best, even if it wasn't all necessarily his own fault.

But try telling that to a certain number of fans who have taken Ronaldo's average performance beyond the realm of statistics and instead illustrated it via the medium of 'highlights' packages.

Ronaldo mocked in 'highlights' videos

Yes, that's right, a number of montages have ruthlessly mocked Ronaldo's Leicester display by stitching together the misplaced passes, unforced errors and general imperfections of his afternoon's work.

In fact, one of them has attracted more than 1,100 retweets and 3,800 'likes' at the time of writing, but the dense swearing of the backing track means you'll have to discover that on your own accord.

However, said compilation certainly isn't alone in taking aim at Ronaldo for one of his lesser displays in a United shirt and you can check out the point they're trying to make down below:

Oof, yeh, that won't be going down in the annuls of Ronaldo masterclasses.

Even Ronaldo is human

Of course, it is worth saying that every footballer is human, even if they're the greatest goalscorer that the sport has ever seen, so it's only natural that they'll all have off days from time to time.

However, what was perhaps most damning for Solskjaer is that so many of his United players looked out of sorts all at once and who knows, maybe that was down to his tactical approach.

Either way, though, let Ronaldo's anomalously poor performance go to show that United can't simply rely on him to bail them out of bad situations as they have so many times already this season.

As the videos show, even footballing gods can come crashing down to earth to play like mortals every now and again. It just happens that Ronaldo does it far, far less often than most.
