Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Manuel Almunia is back at Arsenal after a loan spell with West Ham, but the keeper’s position at the Emirates is far from sure with the transfer window just two months away.

Almunia was sent to West Ham to cover for the injured Robert Green, but the keeper returned to fitness quicker than expected, and Almunia returned to the Gunners.

But with Wojciech Szczesny now in the first position for Arsenal keeper, Almunia could be set for an exit in the next window, according to Wenger.

“He is back from a loan spell at West Ham where he did very well, so he is available again for us,” Wenger told the official Arsenal website.

“I wanted to give him a chance to play and show how good he is because he is at the end of his contract this season.

“I believe he has done very well but the disadvantage for [Arsenal] is that we lose the players for the Champions League games when they go out on loan.

“At the moment we have plenty of keepers so that depends a little bit on who will stay and who will go.”
