The Rock is one of the very best talkers in WWE history.

Give the man a microphone and magic usually tends to follow, with the People’s Champion verbally roasting fellow top stars on Raw and SmackDown throughout his career.

He has gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Triple H, Chris Jericho, Vince McMahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin on the mic and, really, has beaten all of them.

Which is what makes it so surprising that he was spotted sporting his notes for a promo against John Cena on his wrist ahead of WrestleMania 28.

Of course, The Rock and John Cena continually jousted verbally as they prepared for their double-header at consecutive WrestleManias.

At the end of the February 27 Raw, back in 2012, The Rock and Cena were both in the ring, cutting promos on each other.

And Cena blurred the lines between work and shoot.

Cena had been making reference to the man behind the persona, calling Dwayne Johnson “self-centred” and “egotistical”, and also claimed that he didn’t need his notes for his promo on his wrist.

The Rock looked genuinely shocked at the reference Cena had made, and had to take some time to gain his composure, before telling Cena that he was not surprised he had made such a comment and then walked off before The Rock could “slap the lips off your face”.

Rock then seemed to stammer over the end of his promo a little bit, seemingly showing that Cena had got under his skin.

Overall, though, this only served to heighten anticipation for WrestleMania 28, when Rock would actually go on to pin Cena after a Rock Bottom.

He who laughs last is said to laugh loudest and Rock got the bragging rights, until WrestleMania 29 of course, when Cena got his revenge in their second consecutive main event.
