Penalties with both feet? Inter's Ivan Perisic joins ex-Premier League duo with Lazio goal

Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic made history during the Serie A defeat to Lazio.

At first glance, it would be easy to think that nothing note-worthy came from the Italian champions' disappointing 3-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

Besides, Inter came apart at the seams during the final 30 minutes with goals from Ciro Immobile, Felipe Anderson and Sergej Milinković-Savić wiping out their 1-0 lead in the 'Eternal City'.

Simone Inzaghi had been in the driving seat on his return to Lazio courtesy of a 12th-minute goal from the aforementioned Perisic, which was actually fascinating upon closer inspection.

And that's no small statement when you consider that said goal from Perisic was merely a penalty with the Croatian wizard calmly sending Pepe Reina the wrong way to find the net.

However, believe it or not, the fact that Perisic took the spot-kick with his right foot caused a hurried deep-dive into the paperwork and statistics at Opta.

Penalties with right AND left foot

That's because Perisic had actually achieved something that had never previously been done in the Italian top-flight since Opta started recording data in the 2004-05 season.

'What is that?' I hear you ask. Well, it's the distinction of having scored penalties in Serie A with both feet.

And while that might not seem particularly mind-blowing at first glance, just pause for a second by thinking about how mad it would be for you to take in-game penalties with your right and left foot.

Perisic's two-footed penalties

Sure, if you're a decent footballer then you'd be feeling pretty confident with your strong foot, but no matter how two-footed you were, it would feel so weird to line up from 12 yards with your week foot.

That is, of course, unless your name is Perisic because the ambidextrous 32-year-old made it look pretty easy and you can check out his left-footed and right-footed penalty goals down below:

Two players achieved it in the Premier League

Even Santi Cazorla, who is widely considered as one of modern football's most two-footed players, always took his Arsenal penalties in the Premier League with his ever-so-slightly trustier right boot.

However, Perisic can rest assured that he isn't completely alone when it comes to taking penalties with both feet because there have actually been two such switchers in England's top-flight.

According to Opta, Bobby Zamora and Obafemi Martins stand alone as the only two players in Premier League history to have scored penalties with both their right and left feet.

In other words, it doesn't happen very often, so bask in the lesser-spotted brilliance of a player having both the unbelievable nerve and talent to switch up their penalties like it's nothing.
