West Ham transfer news: David Moyes' stance on £19.8m England star revealed

West Ham United boss David Moyes

West Ham United will not make a January move for Jesse Lingard despite boss David Moyes still being a huge fan of the attacking midfielder, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan with the Hammers before returning to Manchester United in the summer.

What's the latest news involving Lingard?

Lingard was in sensational form during his brief spell with West Ham, scoring nine goals and notching a further five assists in 16 appearances.

Before Lingard's loan stint came to an end, Hammers chief Moyes admitted he was keen to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis.

However, Lingard has remained on the books of Manchester United despite entering the final 12 months of his £75,000-per-week contract.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains hopeful of the 32-cap England international agreeing terms on a new deal.

After failing to prise Lingard away from Old Trafford on a long-term basis, Moyes opted to sign Croatia international Nikola Vlasic in a deal which could cost up to £34.5million.

What has Paul Brown said about Lingard?

Brown believes Vlasic's arrival means there is no reason for West Ham to be in the hunt for Lingard when the transfer window reopens in January.

However, the journalist maintains that Moyes follows Lingard closely.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "I get a bit of a sense that Moyes and West Ham have moved on from Jesse Lingard.

"They brought Vlasic in and I'm not sure there's a place in the squad for him at the moment.

"The way David Moyes talks, he pays the right lip service in the fact that he loves Jesse Lingard.

"He hasn't openly said he wants him in his team if he was available, but you get that impression."

How has Lingard performed this season?

Lingard is still waiting to make his first Premier League start of the campaign but came back to haunt West Ham when he grabbed a late winner a week after netting against Newcastle United.

As a result, he has taken his tally up to 29 goals in the top flight.

Which club did West Ham sign Angelo Ogbonna from?

He has also been made to settle for substitute appearances in the Champions League and came under criticism after an error led to Young Boys grabbing a stoppage time winner in September.

Team-mates including Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and David De Gea were quick to offer Lingard support after the costly mistake.

Lingard, who is valued at £19.8million by Transfermarkt, has won three England caps since the season got underway in August and grabbed a brace of goals in a World Cup qualifying clash against Andorra in September.
