NFL Week 6 – 5 Key Performances
Cowboys Digg Out 5 Straight
It took a pick 6 and then overtime for Dallas to overcome the Patriots in New England.
Cornerback, Trevon Diggs intercepted his former Alabama teammate Mac Jones and returned it 42 yards late in the 4th quarter – his 7th interception of the season leads the NFL. Before Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb in OT to score the walk-off touchdown.
It wasn’t the Cowboys cleanest performance, but it showed character, on the road, that should serve as a warning shot to the rest of the NFL. Dallas moves to 5-1 on the back of this 35-29 win. It's their first win in New England since 1987.
Jags Made of the Wright Stuff
For the first time since week 1 of last season the Jacksonville Jaguars are celebrating a regular season win and it couldn’t have come in more dramatic fashion in front of a capacity crowd of over 60,000 in London.
The Jags hadn’t kicked a field goal all season. On Sunday, 25-year-old Matthew Wright converted from 40, 54 and 53 yards – the last, sailing through the uprights as time expired to seal a 23-20 win over Miami and send Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into a frenzy!
Trevor Lawrence becomes the first rookie QB to win in London - rookie quarterbacks were 0-5 before this contest - as the Jaguars head into a bye week, having snapped a winless run of 20 straight games.
Ravens All Charged Up
QB Lamar Jackson loves the month of October! Since 1970 he’s the only QB with 5 or more starts never to have lost a game in October. On Sunday he chalked up another win – taking his tally to 9.
The Ravens dominated an LA Chargers team who were in red hot form – but they never really got close in Baltimore. The Ravens forced turnovers, stifling 4th down conversion attempts and then ran the ball on a Chargers defense which has struggled to contain the run all season long.
The result – a combined total of 187 rushing yards for Baltimore with 3 rushing touchdowns and a convincing 34-6 victory.
Cardinals Silence Dawg Pound
No coaches, no problem for the NFL’s last remaining unbeaten team.
The Arizona Cardinals moved to 6-0 with an impressive 37-14 win on the road despite head coach Kliff Kingsbury and a number of other members of his coaching staff having to miss the game after being placed on the Covid/IR list.
It marks the first time the Cardinals have started the season 6-0 since 1974. QB Kyler Murray was outstanding as he threw 4 TD passes and didn’t turn the ball over.
Meanwhile the Browns have problems. Lead running back Nick Chubb missed the game with a calf injury while QB Baker Mayfield finished Sunday with his left arm in a sling, having injured his shoulder. With this defeat, Cleveland slips to 3-3.
Mahomes Chief Tormentor in Washington
It’s been a tough start for the Kansas City Chiefs but they claimed a much needed 31-13 win on the road in Washington. Despite throwing 2 more interceptions, Patrick Mahomes moved the ball throughout the game on the Washington defense – throwing for 397 yards and 2 TDs.
In the second half he helped turn a 13-10 deficit into a double-digit lead and they never looked back.
Explosive wide receiver, Tyreek Hill has been at fault for a couple of interceptions this season – and he was again on Sunday as the ball bounced off his hands and into the arms of a Washington player – but he bounced back, finding the endzone for the go-ahead score in the 3rd quarter. While tight end Travis Kelce contributed with 8 receptions for 99 yards.
There remain concerns for the Chiefs but this win brings their record back to .500 at 3-3 and suddenly they’re just a game back from the AFC West leading LA Chargers.
