Jamaal Lascelles and Isaac Hayden involved in bust-up after Newcastle 2-3 Tottenham

Jaamal Lascelles and Isaac Hayden clashed after Newcastle 2-3 Spurs

It’s been a big few weeks in the history of Newcastle United.

Mike Ashley, Newcastle’s unpopular owner since 2007, finally left the club earlier this month as he sold to a group led by The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

There was a buzz ahead of their game against Tottenham at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

The excitement in the ground intensified further when Callum Wilson’s goal gave the home side the lead after just two minutes.

But Newcastle were unable to hold on and they eventually succumbed to a 3-2 defeat.

That result means The Magpies remain winless in the Premier League and in the relegation zone with just three points accumulated from eight games.

And tensions boiled over among the players after the final whistle.

The Daily Mail have reported that Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles and Isaac Hayden were involved in a furious bust-up after the game.

The two players clashed in the tunnel as they made their way back to the dressing room.

They went head-to-head and shoves were exchanged. Staff had to intervene and pull them apart.

The report goes on to state that some players then went on to voice their displeasure with Steve Bruce’s tactics in the dressing room.

Newcastle manager, Steve Bruce

The 60-year-old’s future has been a talking point ever since the change of ownership.

There were widespread reports that Bruce was to be replaced before their game against Spurs.

That didn’t materialise, though, to the annoyance of some players.

Resentment has grown for Bruce and in-fighting has also intensified in the past few weeks.

It is believed that ‘a significant number of the squad’ want Bruce to be replaced before their game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Newcastle may be in a good place off the pitch with fans excited about the club’s future with new owners at the helm.

But, at least for the time being, the atmosphere within the club remains as toxic as ever.
