Williams Team Principal Jost Capito has praised Mick Schumacher and said that he'd be more than open to the German driving for his team in the future if the opportunity presented itself.

Schumacher has had a fairly decent rookie season in Formula 1. He's contended well with having the slowest car on the grid by regularly and routinely beating teammate Nikita Mazepin this season - the main barometer for a driver and their success over a campaign.

Indeed, he'll now be looking to try and build on performances like his qualifying in Turkey last time out, where he made Q2, in the final races of the year, before then hoping that 2022 is going to be even more productive as Haas look to provide a much more competitive car.

Schumacher, though, will obviously have eyes on racing for one of the more established teams in the future, especially if Haas remain nearer the back of the field, and as a member of the Ferrari driver academy there is obviously that link there to the Scuderia.

A move to Williams might not be off of the table either, meanwhile, with Capito impressed with Schumacher's performances this season and saying that in the future if the Williams was strong enough he could see Mick following in his uncle Ralf's footsteps to join the Grove-based outfit:

"I have to say Mick is doing an excellent job. It's only his first year in Formula One, but how he's handled things, how he's handled the team and how he's got them behind him is absolutely brilliant," Capito said to RTL.

He's a driver to keep an eye on," Capito continued. "He's a nice guy and really deserves to be in a car he can win with. I'm confident that will happen. If that were a Williams, that would be even better!"

In the more immediate term, Schumacher will be driving for Haas next season in Formula 1 whilst Williams have Nicholas Latifi and Alex Albon contracted, as George Russell heads to Mercedes.
