Frank Lampard will not be Newcastle United's top candidate for the manager's job if current boss Steve Bruce is sacked, according to The Athletic journalist Chris Waugh.
Speculation over Bruce's future has heightened after the 60-year-old admitted his future is out of his hands following the weekend defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle are under new ownership following the £305million takeover earlier this month, but the new hierarchy have moved into St James' Park following a winless start to the season.
Speculation over Bruce's future has been rife and, speaking to Sky Sports via the Sun, the head coach has called on the newly in-place consortium to give clarity over his position.
Should a change be made in the dugout, Lampard - along with Rangers chief Steven Gerrard and Premier League winner Antonio Conte - has been named as a potential contender to replace Bruce.
Lampard is currently available having been without a job since his dismissal by Chelsea in January.
The 43-year-old, who won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during a hugely successful playing career, won 70 of the 141 matches he enjoyed in charge of Chelsea and Derby County.
GIVEMESPORT has been told that Lampard, who has a 50 per cent win ratio during the early stages of his managerial career, would be interested in moving into the Newcastle hotseat.

Waugh believes Lampard does not boast the experience Newcastle's new owners would be looking for if Bruce is axed.
The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "I don't think, as of yet, that he is looking likely to be the top candidate.

"I think they would probably like a little bit more experience than Lampard has had.
"At Chelsea, I know it's debatable as to how well a job he did. Some people think he did well and was treated harshly, but others think he should have been doing better.
"I don't think that Frank Lampard is likely to be the next Newcastle manager but they don't yet know themselves, I don't think. We will just have to wait and see."

It has been reported that former Premier League bosses Roberto Martinez and Unai Emery, who are currently in charge of Belgium and Villarreal respectively, have emerged as leading candidates to succeed Bruce.
Ex-Borussia Dortmund chief Lucien Favre is also thought to be under consideration for the top job at St James' Park.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, meanwhile, has distanced himself from the position amid speculation.
