Journalist Paul Brown is unsure as to whether Malang Sarr will ever be given a prolonged opportunity to shine at Chelsea.

What's the latest news involving Sarr?

Sarr joined Chelsea as a free agent 14 months ago, with Blues director Marina Granovskaia claiming the 22-year-old is a "tremendous prospect".

It came after the central defender left French outfit Nice following the expiry of his contract.

However, 6ft Sarr had to wait until last month to make his Chelsea debut as he played the full 90 minutes of the west London club's Carabao Cup third round clash with Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

He followed that up by also making his Premier League bow in the narrow win over west London neighbours Brentford at the weekend.

Sarr has been an unused substitute in both of the Blues' Champions League group stage clashes against Zenit Saint-Petersburg and Juventus.

He was forced to wait for his Chelsea debut as he spent last season on loan with Porto, joining the Portuguese giants just a matter of weeks after sealing his switch to Stamford Bridge.

He went on to make 19 appearances for Porto, scoring a solitary goal against Pacos de Ferreira in the process, before returning to his parent club.

What has Paul Brown said about Sarr?

Brown is unsure as to what the future holds for Sarr, who joined Chelsea having won six international caps for the France under-21s.

Despite a lack of opportunities, welcoming Sarr to Stamford Bridge has been viewed as a shrewd piece of business as he had previously gained interest from Spanish giants Barcelona and Arsenal.

He also showed his commitment to Chelsea earlier this year when he opted against heading to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with France despite initially being selected.

Brown believes Chelsea supporters will be playing the waiting game when it comes to seeing whether Sarr will ever become a Blues regular.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "Whether we will ever really see Sarr in the Chelsea team for a prolonged period or he's just someone they brought in because they thought they could realise a profit from him at some point, having developed him, I don't know. We'll see."

Who is standing between Sarr and a regular spot in Chelsea's backline?

Chelsea sold Kurt Zouma to West Ham United for £29.8million during the transfer window due to the array of defensive options at head coach Thomas Tuchel's disposal.

Fikayo Tomori also completed a £25million permanent switch to AC Milan, while Marc Guehi joined Crystal Palace during a busy summer.

But centre-halves Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah remain at Stamford Bridge.

Reports in Turkey, via the Sun, claim Fenerbahce were interested in signing Sarr before the window slammed shut at the end of August.
