West Brom latest news: Valerien Ismael could get massive Baggies boost for Wednesday

West Brom manager Valerien Ismael looking focused

Journalist Luke Hatfield believes West Brom midfielder Alex Mowatt could be fit enough to start tomorrow night’s game against Swansea City.

Mowatt has started all 12 of the Baggies’ Championship fixtures so far this season, but has been struggling with fitness issues recently.

What’s the latest news involving Mowatt?

Having played the full 90 minutes in each of West Brom’s opening 10 league matches, the 26-year-old had to be replaced 10 minutes before the end of the team’s 1-0 defeat to Stoke before the international break due to a foot injury.

It seemed that he could be set for a spell on the sidelines, but he made a miraculous recovery, and was able to start West Brom’s game against local rivals Birmingham City last Friday.

However, he was taken off just after the hour mark, signalling that he is still some way off his best condition.

What has Hatfield said about Mowatt’s chances of starting against Swansea?

Hatfield admits that there must be some doubt over Mowatt’s participation on Wednesday given his struggles over the last couple of weeks.

He would not be surprised to see the former England Under-21 international play through the pain barrier again, though.

Referring to Mowatt, the Express & Star reporter told GIVEMESPORT: “Whether we see him tomorrow against Swansea or maybe this weekend is another question, having come off. But you never know with Mowatt, he’s the type of player who wants to play 90 minutes and then some. So, it wouldn’t shock me if we saw him in the starting line-up again.”

Would it be a big boost if Mowatt is fit to start?

It certainly would be.

Mowatt is clearly one of Valerien Ismael’s most trusted players, and that was proven last week when he was rushed back from injury to take on Birmingham.

The central midfielder has consistently performed well this season, and has already scored three league goals, two of which were stunning long-range strikes.

Which club has Lewis Grabban scored the most Championship goals for during his career?

The Championship season is a long one with fixtures coming thick and fast, so Ismael will have to weigh up whether it is worth taking a risk with Mowatt if he is still having fitness problems.

However, if he is in good shape, then he simply has to start as he offers so much to the team, and could play in a crucial role in helping West Brom pick up back-to-back wins.
