Tom Barclay reckons that Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell has repaid the faith shown in him by manager Patrick Vieira.

Following the departure of Patrick van Aanholt over the summer, the 22-year-old has established himself as the club's first-choice left-back and has played every minute in the league this season.

What's the latest news with Mitchell?

Mitchell found himself in a similar situation this time 12 months ago when he started the first six Premier League matches and was Palace's number one left-back.

However, an injury sustained in October stalled his momentum and whilst he would appear 14 times more in all competitions, he wasn't able to rediscover his early season form.

But Mitchell has looked back to his best under Vieira and although his average WhoScored rating is just 6.67, that puts him seventh in the Palace squad and the second-best of all their defenders.

Mitchell is the fourth youngest player in the Palace squad, but Vieira clearly rates the 22-year-old, epitomised by the fact he decided against bringing in a van Aanholt replacement, leaving him as the club's only recognised left-back, with Nathan Ferguson still injured.

And Barclay thinks that Mitchell has fully justified Vieira's decision to not only make him first-choice left-back, but to not sign a back-up.

What did Barclay say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It's a big show of faith in Mitchell's quality and so far, he's really repaid it and his defensive stats have been really good."

How did Mitchell perform against Arsenal?

Exactly three weeks on from suffering added-time heartache against Brighton, Crystal Palace were stung in the final seconds once again after Alexandre Lacazette rescued a point for Arsenal on Monday night.

But it was an excellent performance from Vieira's side and in particular Mitchell, whose 6.76 rating was the best of the four Palace defenders, and a display that warranted a victory from.

Mitchell was not fazed by the occasion and appeared to relish the challenge of coming up against a potentially tricky customer in Nicolas Pepe.

The young left-back more than got the better of his opposite number, who didn't dribble past him throughout the 90 minutes, although the opening goal did come from the Arsenal winger's curling strike when Mitchell failed to close him down in time.

That proved the only blot on the emerging talent's copybook, though.
