Journalist Stuart Hodge has claimed that Celtic selling forward Kyogo Furuhashi in January would be a clear sign of a "lack of ambition" at the club.

The talented attacker only joined the Hoops in July, but has already made his mark at Parkhead.

What's the latest news involving Furuhashi?

The 26-year-old has had a disrupted campaign due to a knee injury, but he has still managed to score nine goals in his 13 appearances across all competitions. This included netting a hat-trick against Dundee in August.

A number of Japanese players have made the move to England in recent years, such as Takumi Minamino and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Furuhashi was recently asked whether he would like to join his international teammates south of the border at some point, but he insisted that he is fully focused on performing for Celtic right now.

What has Hodge said about Furuhashi potentially leaving Celtic already?

The striker has only been in Scotland for three months, but there is already talk that he could move on in the not-too-distant future.

Hodge is adamant that Celtic should not look to cash in on Furuhashi yet, and has suggested that selling him would upset the club's supporters.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If they sell Kyogo Furuhashi after six months, then, I’m not saying it’s going to lead to protest because you never know, but it would be the most telling nail in the coffin of the lack of ambition that Celtic now have, if they were to do that.”

Should Celtic be considering cashing in on Furuhashi?

Furuhashi has hit the ground running in Glasgow, and looks to be a hot prospect. If Celtic did want to sell him in January, they could probably get a decent fee.

Still, it is far too early for them to be considering cashing in on him. Celtic's aim this year should be to try to regain the league title from Rangers, and if they are going to do that, they need to keep Furuhashi for the entire campaign.

He appears to be coming into his peak, and manager Ange Postecoglou should be looking to build a team around the 10-cap international rather than allowing him to leave.

If Furuhashi continues his current trajectory, he will only get better over the next couple of seasons, and then Celtic could look to get big money for him. For now, though, they should be doing all they can to keep him on their books.
