Marco Verratti was also caught out by the referee's decision to blow his whistle as loudly as possible, but Messi and Achraf Hakimi both kept their cool.

After the match, Mbappe spoke about the penalty taking decisions made by him and Messi during the latter stages of the game.

"It’s normal, it’s respect," the Frenchman said. "He’s the best player in the world, it’s a privilege he plays with us, I’ve always said it. There’s a penalty, he takes it, period. For the second, he said, 'Take it'."

The chemistry that appears to be developing between Mbappe and Messi is certainly a huge positive for PSG - despite the team's sub-par performances overall.
