Roman Pavlyuchenko was excluded from the Tottenham side that won 3-1 at Craven Cottage in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday, and has now disclosed the reason for his absence.

The 29-year-old picked up an injury during Spurs' 1-0 defeat to Rubin Kazan in the UEFA Europa League Group A game in Russia last week, and had to be substituted on 75 minutes.

"I got this injury during our game against Rubin," Pavlyuchenko told Sport-Express. "I felt pain in the back 10 minutes before the break and I asked for a special patch which fixed my back.

"I felt even more pain in the second half and in this condition I wasn't really useful for my team so I asked to be substituted."

The Russian international has endured a difficult season at White Hart Lane so far, finding himself on the fringes of Harry Redknapp's first-team squad.

But having now recovered from the knock, Pavlyuchenko is hoping to get himself back in contention for a place in the side, but before that is looking ahead to further playing time while on international duty.

"As I got back to London I was hardly able to walk," he continued. "The doctors stated that I have neuralgia and advised special physiotherapy and to take medicines.

"But now, I'm much better and will go for Russian national team duty in fully fit condition. I'll fly to Moscow on Tuesday evening."
