Cristiano Ronaldo was the hero for Manchester United once again as they came back from 2-0 down to defeat Atalanta in the Champions League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to have his neck on the chopping block when the Red Devils found themselves trailing on the back of just one point in their last three Premier League outings.

Goals from Mario Pašalić and Merih Demiral saw United staring down the barrel of yet another defeat, but alas, the Red Devils pulled off their latest moment of escapology to turn things around.

First, a little bit of magic from Bruno Fernandes made the difference with the Portuguese's superb through ball finding the feet of Marcus Rashford who emphatically made it two goals in two games.

Then, Harry Maguire raised two fingers to the doubters with a scintillating volley, duly setting the scene for Ronaldo to produce his second Old Trafford winner in as many games in Europe.

With Luke Shaw whipping a fantastic ball into the box, there was an unerring sense of inevitability when Ronaldo rose to meet the cross and headed home a winner to save the day for United.

And it was clear that the winner had an emotional impact on the Portuguese, who was seen dropping to his knees on the full-time whistle and fist-bumping down the camera.

As Ronaldo made his way off the pitch and to the dressing room, a pitch invader raced on to the pitch to try and share a moment with his hero.

However, just as he laid a hand on Ronaldo's shirt, he was taken down by stewards.

Ronaldo initially looked stunned but he quickly saw the funny side. View the moment below:

Ronaldo's goal means that United currently sit first in Group F, having accumulated six points from their opening three games.
