The build-up to last weekend's BOXXER card in Newcastle treated us to the unique sight of Chris Eubank Jr signing a microwave for a fan as he posed for photos with supporters outside his hotel.Nobody was more puzzled by the request than the 32-year-old middleweight contender, although he happily signed the kitchen appliance - much to the delight of the crowd assembled around him. Users on social media understandably had questions after the bizarre encounter went viral: Why was the young man concerned was carrying an unboxed microwave through the streets of Tyneside in the first place? Furthermore, why was he so keen to have the former IBO super-middleweight champion autograph it?Whatever the circumstances behind the wonderfully random interaction, the fan himself was certainly delighted with his evening's work as he skipped down the street clutching his newly-signed piece of kitchenware.

The fan was smiling shortly after he met Eubank Jr, but we're guessing that he's positively beaming now.

A listing offering what appears to be the microwave that the British boxer signed in Newcastle has recently appeared on eBay - and there's been plenty of interest in it so far!

With more than two days to go in the auction, the autographed appliance has attracted 97 bids and is currently set to sell for an outrageous £65,900.

Chris Eubank Jr comments on eBay auction for signed microwave

News of the astronomical sum that the (presumably) one-of-a-kind piece is selling for quickly reached Eubank Jr, who tweeted pledging to match the top bid for the item with a donation to the charity of the winner's choice.

"Been sent a link to an eBay auction that's selling the microwave I signed in Newcastle," the fighter told his 368,000 followers.

"No idea how much it’ll go for, but to make this a more meaningful situation whatever the winning bid is I’ll match it & give the money to a charity of the winner's choice." A top gesture from the Brighton-based man.

For the record, Eubank Jr defeated Germany's Wanik Awdijan via corner stoppage at the end of the fifth round on Saturday night, recording the 31st professional victory of his career.

His week's work in Newcastle, however, seems destined to be forever remembered for a microwave - rather than his efforts in the ring.

Quite how valuable that microwave ends up being remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, though. If you want to own this particular piece of memorabilia, you're going to have to dig deep.
