Wolverhampton Wanderers fans are starting to question whether Fabio Silva will ever reach his potential at Molineux, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

Silva made the move to the Premier League after Wolves struck a deal worth a club-record £35.6million with Portuguese giants Porto last year.

What's the latest news involving Silva?

Wolves splashed the cash after Silva had shown huge potential while on the books of Porto, with him scoring three goals and contributing a further two assists in his first 21 appearances in senior football.

He had also been involved in nine goals in as many outings while featuring for his former Portuguese employers at Youth League level.

But he has failed to produce the goods since heading to Molineux, finding the back of the net on just four occasions having featured more than 40 times.

Silva has also failed to win the trust of fellow countryman Bruno Lage, who was appointed as Wolves' new head coach in June.

The 19-year-old has yet to feature in a Premier League starting line-up since Lage's arrival and is still awaiting his first senior goal of the season.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Silva?

Hatfield believes Wolves supporters are starting to lose patience with Silva and are now regretting the club's decision to spend big on the teenager.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "It's getting to the point where a lot of Wolves fans will look at the signing of Fabio Silva and think the club could have probably spent the money better.

"They signed him on potential and we're yet to see that potential realised, which is the risk you always take with those kind of players.

"If he came in for £35million and started scoring five or 10 goals a season as a teenager, then you would think he is the real deal."

Is there hope that Silva can finally ignite his Wolves career?

Silva became former employers Porto's youngest ever player and goalscorer during his time with the club, so he clearly has ability.

Following his switch to Molineux, Wolves' executive chairman Jeff Shi claimed Silva has the potential to be a generational talent.

But Wolves will be hoping Silva displays the capabilities the club invested so heavily in sooner rather than later as he is currently their third-highest earner.

Silva, who grabbed two assists in the Carabao Cup thrashing of Nottingham Forest in August, still has four years remaining on his £80,000-per-week deal.
