Tottenham face an uphill battle to stay in the Europa Conference League after slipping to a 1-0 defeat against Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday evening.

A brilliant second half strike from Maximilian Wittek secured all three points for the Dutch side in a match where Nuno Espirito Santo's team dropped a bit of a stinker.

Spurs unsurprisingly put out a weakened XI for the game, but there were still high-profile names present in the form of Dele Alli, Steven Bergwijn, Bryan Gil, Harry Winks, Davinson Sanchez and Giovani Lo Celso.

But none of them could make a significant impact, with the English outfit as a whole mustering just one shot on target throughout proceedings.

That's just simply not good enough and the players who featured for Spurs in Holland will now be even further from breaking into Espirito Santo's best team.

Lo Celso's performance was arguably the worst of the bunch, the Argentine - who's thrived recently alongside Lionel Messi on international duty - struggling immensely in a slightly more defensive midfield role.

The big-money signing from Real Betis just hasn't found his feet at the north London club and two clips of him failing at football versus Vitesse have surfaced on social media.

You can understand why they're frustrated, but it certainly would help if Lo Celso was given a run in the team in his correct position.

The Copa America winner needs to play further forward than where he was deployed in the defeat against Vitesse.

But if Lo Celso then drops similar sub-par performances in a more natural role, the player can have no excuses whatsoever.
