Cristiano Ronaldo was Manchester United's saviour in the 3-2 win over Atalanta this week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job looked to be under serious threat when the Red Devils trailed 2-0 at half-time on the back of collecting just one point from their last three Premier League games.
However, as has so often been the case during the Norwegian's tenure, United managed to pull a result out of the fire just when it seemed as though Solskjaer was at risk of being sacked.

Bruno Fernandes got the comeback underway with a scintillating assist to Marcus Rashford, who duly made it two goals in two games since returning from back surgery with a calm finish.
And when Harry Maguire atoned for the errors of his Leicester City performance with an equalising goal from yet another Fernandes assist, the stage was set for Ronaldo to strike again.
With just nine minutes left to play, the former Real Madrid striker met a Luke Shaw cross into the penalty area like a wrecking ball and watched with the delight as it found the bottom corner.

Tense situation at half-time
Cue delirium at Old Trafford with the calls of Solskjaer's head forgotten in an instant and United climbing the ranks to top their Champions League group. All sunshine and rainbows, right?
Well, ok, things aren't quite that simple and Paul Scholes was just one example of a United fan who wasn't best pleased with the nature of the performance despite the eventual score of 3-2.
Now, to be fair to Scholes, it would have been fascinating to be a fly on the wall of the United dressing room at half-time because to say they were under the cosh would be putting it mildly.

And according to a report from The Sun, United have Ronaldo to thank in more ways than expected because it's claimed that he played a key role in that very half-time crisis point.
That's because the tabloid claims that Ronaldo unleashed 'stunning hairdryer treatment' in order to take charge of the tense situation with Solskjaer busy 'trying to calm down feuding' United players.
A United source informed The Sun: “Cristiano addressed the whole team and told them that the performance was unacceptable.
“He asked if they were not ashamed and said this was not how Manchester United perform in front of their own fans. He told them they needed to win the game and, if they didn’t, they might not qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.”
It is then explained that Solskjaer used Ronaldo's speech as a springboard to give his own thoughts, insisting that the game was there to be won if they played like a team and scored the next goal.
Bruno Fernandes then reportedly told the manager that there needed to be a change in tactics so that he could drop deeper to get on the ball easier.

And all in all, when you consider that United produced a fantastic comeback, you have to say that those conversations paid dividends regardless of how chaotic and disorganised they might sound.
It had long been touted that Ronaldo would bring such a positive influence to the dressing room and even if there's a little bit of shouting along that way, reports suggest that it's already proving true.
