A year ago this month, Manchester United suffered a humbling 6-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham.
As abject as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were on that day, though, there is another loss by the same scoreline that haunts United fans far more.
On October 23, 2011 (10 years ago today), the Red Devils' fierce local rivals Manchester City stormed Old Trafford and turned Alex Ferguson's United team over in emphatic fashion.
Despite the lopsided nature of the final score, the visitors only led 1-0 at the break in the Premier League clash, thanks to Mario Balotelli's opener - complete with his now-legendary 'Why always me?' celebration.
It was Jonny Evans' red card shortly after half-time that truly handed Roberto Mancini's men the momentum - and they made it count in ruthless fashion.
Five goals in the final half an hour from City - including three in stoppage time - handed United one of the most painful defeats in their history. Darren Fletcher's sole reply for the home side was of absolutely no consolation to the majority of the 75,000 fans in attendance.
The result would set the tone for a changing of the guard in terms of the Manchester footballing landscape, as City would claim that season's Premier League title - their first in 44 years at the time.

Manchester United
David de Gea
The Spaniard was in his debut season with United at the time of the match. The last ten years haven't always been plain sailing for him, but he remains United's first-choice shot-stopper today and has been in fine form so far this season.
Patrice Evra
The French left-back departed United for Juventus in 2014. After his time in Turin came to an end, he had brief spells with both Marseille and West Ham. Retired since 2019, he is today best-known for entertaining fans with his antics on social media.
Rio Ferdinand
Ferdinand left Old Trafford at the end of the 2013/14 season, before embarking on an ill-fated year with Queens Park Rangers and then hanging up his boots. Rio is now a regular pundit for BT Sport and host of his own podcast. He makes no secret of the fact that he is still a massive United fan in both roles.
Jonny Evans
The man whose dismissal effectively sealed United's fate against City, Evans was sold to West Brom in 2015. A move to Leicester followed three years later. The Northern Ireland international is still a regular for the Foxes and lifted the FA Cup with them last season.
Chris Smalling
After clocking up a decade of service for the Red Devils, Smalling made a surprising loan move to Roma in 2019. He enjoyed life in the Italian capital so much that he decided to make the switch permanent and is still part of Jose Mourinho's squad today.
Nani
Since leaving Old Trafford in 2015, the Portuguese winger has had somewhat of a nomadic career. Spells with Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbahce, Valencia and Lazio came before a switch to MLS side Orlando City SC in 2019. He remains with the franchise today, serving as their captain.
Anderson
The Brazilian midfielder joined up with Fiorentina on loan in 2014 after eight seasons with United - and left permanently the following year to join Internacional in his homeland. That move did not bring great success and it was a similar story during stints with Coritiba and Adana Demirspor.
Anderson hung up his boots in 2019, aged only 31.
Darren Fletcher
The former Scotland international's final years as a player at Old Trafford were blighted by chronic illness. However, Fletcher did manage to continue his career after exiting the club in 2014, spending time with both West Brom and Stoke.
Fletcher is now back with the Red Devils following retirement - this time as a coach.
Ashley Young
After joining Inter Milan from United in January 2020, Young became just the third Englishman to lift the Serie A title when Antonio Conte's side won the competition last season.
Young is now back in the Premier League with Aston Villa.
Wayne Rooney
Rooney departed United in 2017 as the club's all time record goalscorer. By that point, his best days were clearly behind him as evidenced by his uninspiring return to former club Everton.
Spells with DC United and Derby County followed before Rooney called time on his playing days to concentrate on managerial duties having taken over as boss at Pride Park.
The Rams are currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship and in a financial mess. To his credit, though, Rooney has vowed to stick with the beleaguered side.
Danny Welbeck
A hotly-tipped young talent at the time of United's demolition by City, Welbeck is now very much in the veteran stage of his career. Now plying his trade with Brighton after stints with both Watford and Arsenal, he never truly delivered on the promise he showed a decade ago.
Manchester City
Joe Hart
In 2011, then-England number one Hart was a staple of the City side. He remained so until 2016 when a certain Pep Guardiola rocked up at the Etihad and swiftly moved him on to Torino.
Hart has had spells with West Ham, Burnley and Tottenham, not making much of a mark with any of those sides. A switch to Celtic in the summer has at least given him the opportunity to play regular football again.
Micah Richards
Richards' time with City came to an end in 2015. Injuries meant that subsequent moves to Fiorentina and Aston Villa were nothing to write home about. Retired since 2019, Richards can now be seen verbally sparring with United legend Roy Keane as a pundit for Sky Sports.
Vincent Kompany
A City icon, only the lure of his native Belgium was sufficient to lure Kompany away from the Etihad. He departed in the summer of 2019 to become player/manager at Anderlecht.
Joleon Lescott
Lescott linked up with West Brom in 2014 following the end of his time at City. Stops at Aston Villa and AEK Athens were next before the defender chose to hang up his boots. He now works as a pundit for BT Sport.
Gael Clichy
Still turning out for Swiss side Servette today at the age of 36, Clichy picked up two Premier League titles with City before leaving the club in 2017.
Gareth Barry
Barry still had plenty of football left in him after his City exit in 2014. Playing on for a further six seasons, the midfielder represented both Everton and West Brom with great distinction.
By the time he decided it was time to call it a day, Barry had racked up a total of 653 Premier League appearances - the most in the history of the competition.
James Milner
His numbers aren't quite as impressive as Barry's, but Milner's still had an incredible career. He departed City for Liverpool in 2015 and is still a valued member of the Red's squad at the age of 35.
Yaya Toure
A driving force at City for much of the seven seasons that followed their Old Trafford triumph, club legend Toure left the Etihad in 2018 to join Olympiakos.
Now retired, he is currently as assistant manager at Russian club Akhmat Grozny.
David Silva
Silva has his own statue at the Etihad, which should tell you all you need to know about the impact he made on the blue side of Manchester. After 10 years with City, he left to return to his native Spain with Real Sociedad, where he still turns out today.
Sergio Aguero
The Argentine international departed City at the end of last season with 260 goals to his name for the club. A summer move to Barcelona hasn't gone as planned, though. Injuries have meant that the striker has yet to start a match at Camp Nou since his switch.
Mario Balotelli
The controversial frontman only lasted another 18 months at City after his Old Trafford brace before being moved on to AC Milan. In total, Balotelli has played for seven clubs in eight years since and never settled for long anywhere.
The Italian is now playing for Turkish SuperLig side Adana Demirspor, where he's scored four goals in eight appearances this term.
