The Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool on February 11th 2012 was certainly hot-tempered.

During the meeting between the two sides at Anfield a few months prior, Luis Suarez was accused of racially abusing Patrice Evra.

The Uruguayan was charged with the offence and eventually found to be guilty following an FA investigation, which saw him receive an eight-game ban plus a £40,000 fine.

It was an incident that unsurprisingly dominated the narrative in the build-up to the match at Old Trafford in 2012 and things only got worse just before kick-off.

Suarez infamously refused to shake Evra's hand, an act that was widely condemned.

The Liverpool man's refusal to make peace in front of millions watching around the world clearly fired up the United players, Evra and Rio Ferdinand in particular.

In fact, both tried to get revenge on Suarez in the opening minute of the match, but it didn't exactly go to plan for them.

Instead of leaving the striker in a crumpled heap on the turf like they intended, Evra clattered into his colleague and sent him flying into the air in a manner befitting of a comedy sketch.

Fortunately, neither player was seriously hurt...

Ouch. Suarez pulled out of the tackle and then gave Ferdinand a little push, although even if the Liverpool man hadn't done so, Evra still would have flattened his teammate.

On the first-minute clash with Ferdinand, Evra told The Guardian: "For me, it was like: 'What's going on? You see the first tackle, a tackle on Rio Ferdinand? If it was Suarez then I could have had a red card straight away and I'd have been off the pitch."

United went on to win the match 2-1 thanks to a brace from Wayne Rooney, with Suarez grabbing Liverpool's consolation late on.
