Man United: When Diego Forlan took his shirt off celebrating and couldn't get it back on

Well, you don't see that every game...

Diego Forlan didn't score too many goals in his two-year stint with Manchester United.

But when he did ripple the back of the net, it was usually pretty spectacular and that was certainly the case in a match against Southampton in 2002.

Forlan was initially benched for the Premier League encounter, despite ending his infamous nine-month goal drought the previous game.

But Sir Alex Ferguson turned to the Uruguayan with the scores level at 1-1 and the long-haired striker repaid the manager's faith in him.

Forlan scored an absolute screamer from outside the box to secure a priceless victory for United and he duly celebrated by whipping his shirt off.

Unfortunately, the act of removing the jersey to honour the stunning goal was far easier for him than getting it back on in order to continue with the match.

That resulted in Forlan having to play bare-chested for a little while and footage of the striker holding his top in one hand while making a tackle near the touchline will always be funny.

Magnificent stuff. Unfortunately, the killjoys over at FIFA didn't find it hilarious and decided soon after the incident that a player should be punished with a yellow card for removing their shirt in celebration.

Forlan eventually got his top back on after some much-needed assistance from members of United's staff.

On the celebration that left him playing half-naked for a brief time, he said: "I went to the corner where the parents of the players always are and I dedicated my goal to my brother, a friend nicknamed Bata and an English friend that I have had since I arrived here.

"The only problem that I had with my celebration was that I took my jersey off and then I couldn't get back on.

"I wanted to do it but I had to keep on playing and I couldn't get it on."
