Wayne Rooney celebrates his 36th birthday on Sunday.

The Englishman enjoyed an illustrious career as a player where he featured for the likes of Everton and Manchester United.

He played 763 games at club level, scoring 313 times.

Rooney is also the highest goalscorer in England history, having hit the back of the net 56 times in 120 outings.

Rooney was a superb player who didn't have many flaws to his game whatsoever.

One of his biggest problems, though, was his temper.

To say that Rooney had a short fuse would be an understatement.

Sometimes losing his temper worked in his favour, sometimes it worked against him.

One iconic moment where Rooney lost it came on November 1, 2008, in a match for Man United vs Hull.

Wayne Rooney vs Hull in 2008

United led 4-1 at Old Trafford, but two quick-fire goals from Hull reduced the deficit to one-goal with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

Rooney was absolutely raging.

Shortly after Hull's third goal, Rooney contested a drop-ball against George Boateng. View it below...

Poor Boateng wasn't ready for what his opponent was about to do.

Rooney didn't even look like he was going for the ball as he clattered into the Hull midfielder.

He then smashed into Andy Dawson - a challenge that saw him given a yellow card.

To be honest, he was lucky that Mike Dean only thought his challenge warranted a booking.

But imagine if he did that in the present day?!

There is no way that Rooney would have been allowed to stay on the pitch. Even if the on-pitch referee thought it was only a booking, VAR would almost certainly have thought otherwise.

Rooney probably would have been slapped with a lengthy ban as well...
