Jesse Lingard defended himself from abuse from Manchester United fans while he warmed up during Sunday’s shock 5-0 defeat against fierce rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils suffered one of their most humiliating defeats of the Premier League era against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The result piles huge pressure on the shoulders of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who may now face a battle to hold onto his job.
United’s board were expected to stick with Solskjaer until the end of the season regardless of what happens, but the sight of thousands of fans leaving Old Trafford with 25 minutes left on the clock may change their thinking.
Naby Keita and Diogo Jota got Liverpool off to a flying start inside the opening 15 minutes, while the in-form Mohamed Salah went on to complete a hat-trick.
Paul Pogba was shown a straight red card for United, 15 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute, while Cristiano Ronaldo was also lucky not to be sent off following a first-half incident involving Curtis Jones.
Solskjaer sent on Diogo Dalot and Edinson Cavani with just under half-hour remaining but the damage had been done.
This will be remembered as one of Man Utd’s most embarrassing defeats.
