Cristiano Ronaldo was fortunate to still be on the pitch for the second half of Manchester United’s humiliating 5-0 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday. The legendary Portuguese forward, clearly frustrated that his side were 3-0 down in first-half stoppage time, aggressively kicked the ball while it was nestled in Curtis Jones’s midriff.Jones’s teammates immediately marched over to Ronaldo. Andy Robertson was first on the scene and told Man Utd’s No. 7 that his actions were unacceptable. The towering Virgil van Dijk then emerged looking angry and chested Ronaldo away.Cristiano might have fancied himself against Robertson, but we’re not sure that he felt so confident against Liverpool’s Dutch centre-back.p1fipsumg71hjd1eoj1mjg1u70770h.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Virgil van Dijk

Ronaldo’s compatriot Bruno Fernandes then came in and somehow managed to shove Van Dijk to one side, before he was pushed in the back by Ibrahima Konaté.

Some believed that Ronaldo deserved a red card for his actions but referee Anthony Taylor felt a yellow was sufficient.

Either way, you’d expect better from a player of Ronaldo’s experience.

Then again, the man is a born winner and this defeat will have hurt him as much as anyone.

What did Solskjaer say after Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool?

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described the defeat as his “darkest day” as manager, but says he won’t resign.

"We know we are rock bottom, we can't feel any worse than this. Let's see where we take it," he told Sky Sports, per BBC Sport.

"I have come too far, we have come too far as a group. We are too close to give up now."

Asked how he will lift the players, the under-fire Norwegian added: "It is going to be a difficult one. The players will be low but there's loads of characters there."
