Manchester United 0-5 Liverpool, who predicted that scoreline?

Many football fans would have tipped the Reds to win comfortably at Old Trafford last Sunday afternoon, but no one expected them to absolutely batter their fiercest rivals.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Trent Alexander-Arnold had a field day against United's lacklustre defence.

Time and time again, Jurgen Klopp's side cut through the home team like a knife through hot butter and they could have scored more goals on the day.

In the end, they settled for five, with only one them coming after the half-time interval.

That goal was arguably the pick of the bunch, though.

Just five minutes into the second half, Salah latched on to an inch-perfect pass from captain Jordan Henderson and then nonchalantly dinked the ball over David De Gea to claim his hat-trick.

It was a work of art from Liverpool and the through-ball from Henderson is without question one of the best assists we've seen so far in the 2021/22 Premier League season.

The outside-of-the-boot pass was also the spitting image of one of Steven Gerrard's very best for the Reds.

A side-by-side comparison of the two magical assists has cropped up on social media and it's quite spooky how similar they are.

So, which pass was better, Henderson's to Salah or Gerrard's to Sturridge against Fulham in February 2014?

It's virtually impossible to pick a clear winner, as they're both magnificent, so we're not even going to try and will instead just marvel at both.

Henderson's overall performance in the 5-0 thrashing of United was of the highest quality and a stern reminder that he's still one of the best in the business.

The absence of Fabinho looked as if it would prove costly before a ball was kicked, but the Liverpool captain filled the void left by the Brazilian at the base of the midfield perfectly.
