Manchester United's Harry Maguire has had a bit of a mare so far in the 2021/22 season.

The centre-back was one of England's heroes at Euro 2020 in the summer, turning in a plethora of world-class displays to help guide the country to the final of the tournament.

But since he's returned to club duty, Maguire has looked a pale shadow of the player that was a defensive colossus for the Three Lions.

Unfortunately for United, the former Leicester City man saved arguably the worst performance of his career for the team's match against Liverpool last Sunday.

Maguire lined up alongside Victor Lindelof at the back and proceeded to drop a display befitting of a struggling League Two defender.

The 28-year-old was at fault for a number of Liverpool's five goals on the day, particularly the first two - which were scored by Naby Keita and Diogo Jota.

He didn't exactly cover himself in glory for Mohamed Salah's treble either and one fan has highlighted just that in a damning video compilation.

Take a look at the footage for yourself, which doesn't paint Luke Shaw in the best light either...

Video: Maguire's 'defensive masterclass' vs Liverpool mocked

Wow. It's safe to say that Maguire's ineptitude at Old Trafford on Sunday played a significant role in four of Liverpool's goals.

We'll let him off slightly for Salah's third, because the pass from Jordan Henderson was absolutely magnificent and there wasn't much the United captain could do about it.

But all in all, it was a bit of a horror show from Maguire and the Red Devils really need the £80 million man to rediscover his best form as soon as possible.

In his post-match interview following the defeat to Liverpool, the Sheffield-born defender was quick to apologise to the fans for the team's ghastly display.

Maguire's interview after Liverpool hammering

"First and foremost, apologies to the fans," Maguire told Sky Sports. "It's nowhere near good enough at this club. We are all disappointed.

"We spoke in the dressing room, I'm here because I have to be here. The only real thing is we have to apologise to the fans. They stuck right with us, singing and chanting at 5-0, but for us as a club we have to do better."

The United fans certainly deserve better than what they witnessed at the Theatre of Dreams against Liverpool, that's for sure.
