Manchester United endured one of their darkest days on Sunday as Ole Gunnar's Solskjaer's side were walloped by bitter rivals, Liverpool.

Old Trafford has not always been a very happy hunting ground for the Merseysiders but on Sunday, they ransacked the Theatre as they swarmed over United.

Odds are you would have already come across a few United fans with their heads buried firmly in the sand today in a bid to avoid the ridicule on social media and at their places of work.

However, one man who simply can't hide from the fierce criticism, is Solskjaer.

The Norwegian cut a dejected figure as he stood helpless on the sidelines and watched as his team capitulated in the face of a Liverpool side that weren't even at their scintillating best.

Naturally, Ole bore the brunt of the criticism in the immediate aftermath and will continue to do so in the coming days until United play again at the weekend.

As if the media speculation wasn't bad enough, rumours are beginning to emerge that Ole is under fire from inside the United camp as well.

According to report from ESPN, sources are reporting that the United playing staff are beginning to turn on the embattled boss.

The report claims that Solskjaer had already lost the support of a 'sizeable number of players' even prior to the Liverpool humiliation.

While the atmosphere is yet to reach the heady levels of toxicity that we saw under Jose Mourinho, there is a growing sense that it is only a matter of time for Solskjaer.

Quoting yet more sources, the report then claims that one of the biggest issues lies with Solskjaer's failure to impose his authority on the United forwards leading to 'exasperation among senior players'.

Those same senior players are said to be desperate for 'more tactical direction' from their coaching staff as well, as they begin to further question Solskjaer's credentials.

Another issue is the souring relationship between Mason Greenwood and Cristiano Ronaldo, with many of the players frustrated that Solskjaer has been unable to force the pair to work together.

There is a noted reluctance a long the pair to pass to each other while Ronaldo has become increasingly annoyed by Greenwood's decision making.

It's a report that does not make for happy reading for United fans and you can't help but feel that Solskjaer's time in charge is at a real tipping point.

He needs to turn it around, but he desperately needs the help of his players to do that.

Can he rally them to ignite a resurgence? Only time will tell.
