Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge reckons that Newcastle could still get relegated this season despite their recent takeover.

The Magpies became the richest club in world football after their £305m Saudi Arabian-backed takeover was confirmed earlier this month, ending Mike Ashley's 14-year reign at St James' Park.

But it hasn't yet been able to transform the club on the pitch, with Newcastle still winless in the Premier League following their weekend draw at Crystal Palace.

How have Newcastle performed this season?

It's been a wretched start to the campaign for the North East giants, who've picked up just four points from a possible 27, have the second-worst defence in the top-flight - ahead of only rock-bottom Norwich City - and have scored just 11 times in the process.

Newcastle don't even have the excuse of being handed a tough fixture list, their only games against the traditional top-six were away to Manchester United and home to Tottenham, who're struggling for consistency under Nuno Espirito Santo.

They've played five of the sides directly above them, but simply haven't performed at a level that is good enough to win Premier League matches.

Newcastle did at least end their losing run at Palace on Saturday, but it was a ninth league fixture without winning this term and with games to come against Arsenal, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs before Christmas, it could be an anxious few months ahead for the Magpies.

Unsurprisingly, the takeover hasn't changed much in terms of results, and despite have a reported £190m to spend in January, according to the Telegraph, Bridge reckons that Newcastle could still finish in the bottom-three.

What did Bridge say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Yeah, I do [think they can go down]. I worry about Tottenham's backbone sometimes, but they went there last weekend and shut them up.

"I think some clubs are going to feel the same. If they go to Southampton away, they'll be saying, 'those new rich boys in town'. They might find it really tough. They're now the richest club in the world, but these players are not great players. How are they going to cope? They could be in serious trouble."

Can Newcastle get relegated?

Newcastle are likely to have large funds available in coming windows, but they still have 10 games before the January window opens and if they don't start winning sharpish, they could find themselves cut adrift by the time they're able to sign players.

What shirt number does Miguel Almiron wear for Newcastle?

They do host Norwich at the end of November, but it's difficult to see where a victory is coming from before they host the Canaries.

They're only three points from safety and that's on the back of failing to win in nine, which suggests there's still plenty of time to turn it around, but their current form can't carry on or Championship football next season will become a real possibility.
