Caleb Plant will 'shock the world' by knocking out Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Andre Ward has predicted.
The unfancied American will defend his IBF super-middleweight title against the Mexican superstar on November 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez will likely pack a bigger punch over the 2011 Golden Gloves champion, but Ward insists he shouldn't be so sure about that.
The former two-weight world champion told FightHype.com: "I’m not a believer when you face a guy that’s powerful or a guy that’s supposed to have punching power you’re [supposed to] avoid him and being perfect for 12 [rounds].
"Like, I don’t believe in that. Like, I like to go rattle their cage. In fact, you gotta [sic] rattle the cage.
"What I mean by that is that sometimes you gotta [sic] go to that power and smother it.
"You gotta [sic] let them know, whoever it is, hey, you can get hurt, too."
Ward, who has trained with Plant ahead of his fight with Canelo, reckons Plant has the power to trouble Alvarez.
The 37-year-old added: "Caleb is a guy that has more power than they realize.
“I think he’s physically strong. I just think it’s always crazy until you do it. It’s easy for fans to choose - the easy pick is Canelo because of his history and everything he accomplished."
"But I'll support Caleb, win, lose, or draw. But I think he has a great opportunity to go out there and shock the world. He just needs to put his mental on and make it happen.”
Plant is 4-0 since defeating José Uzcátegui in January 2019 and is 'confident' of causing a huge upset in his high-stakes clash with Canelo.
He told Premier Boxing Champions: "I'll beat Canelo Alvarez and, if he wants to take the rematch, I'll beat him twice.
"He looked beatable versus Lara, he got schooled by Floyd, he lost the first fight to GGG and it was really close the second time. They’re not going to convince me the guy’s unbeatable
"I'll beat David Benavidez, I'll beat Jermall Charlo and I'll be crowned as one of the greatest fighters of this era, period."
