Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant: Terence Crawford says Plant should copy Gennady Golovkin

Terence Crawford gives advice to Caleb Plant on how to beat Canelo Alvarez

Caleb Plant should use Gennady Golovkin's tactics to beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, according to WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford.

The IBF super-middleweight champion will challenge pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on November 6.

Alvarez, 31, and Golovkin, 39, fought to a controversial draw in Las Vegas back in September 2017.

Alvarez won the rematch, a result Golovkin could not accept, instead taking issue with the judges' scorecards.

And Crawford, who is preparing for his fight with Shawn Porter, thinks Plant should adopt a similar strategy to what Golovkin employed in his first fight with Alvarez.

“It’s going to be a good fight. I’m excited to see it,” Crawford told Fight Hub.

“I’m excited to see what Caleb Plant does.

“If he’s going to come in there and stand in front of Canelo, I think that would be a bad game plan.

"I think that he should utilize his skills and look at the GGG first fight and take bits and pieces from that fight and put it into his arsenal."

Plant (21-0, 12 KOs), 29, has not fought in Las Vegas since his 2019 win over Mike Lee in Sin City

His close friend Andre Ward has also refused to write off his chances, insisting that it is a 'great opportunity'.

Speaking to Max on Boxing, Ward said: “This is a great fight and a great opportunity for a fighter like Caleb Plant.

"I love this moment in his career where he’s fought solid competition, and he has the look and makings of a fighter that can go to the next level.

“He [Plant] has to prove it. I love these proving moments, and he’s getting that opportunity against Canelo on November 6th. Trust me; it’s not going 12."

Ward then continued: “The thing about Caleb Plant, he couldn’t land a sucker punch on Canelo in the press conference. Canelo’s defense is real. He’s got to hit him in the ring now, and Canelo knows it’s coming.

"Who do you like in that fight? Canelo or Caleb Plant? I’m going to go with Caleb Plant.

"That’s my brother, so I’m going to support him all the way, but he’s got to prove it. He’s got the ability, he’s got the skills, but he’s got to turn up.”
