Jacob Ramsey is already showing he is comfortable performing in the Premier League at the age of 20, according to BirminghamLive journalist Ashley Preece.

Ramsey has only failed to get involved in one top flight fixture so far this season and grabbed his first senior goal for the club when he fired in a long range strike during last week's defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

What's the latest news involving Ramsey?

Ramsey has come through the Villa ranks and made 65 appearances for the club's under-18 and under-23 sides before getting his big break.

It was with the under-18s where Ramsey showed he was capable of being a goalscoring midfielder, with him finding the back of the net 16 times in 38 outings.

He went on to be rewarded for his progress in the academy by being handed his Premier League debut by head coach Dean Smith 13 months ago, with him emerging as a substitute during a comfortable win over Fulham.

That came more than a year after Ramsey made his senior bow during a Championship derby defeat at the hands of rivals West Bromwich Albion.

It appears as though Jack Grealish's £100million switch to Manchester City, which is the most expensive transfer in British football history, has allowed Ramsey to enjoy more opportunities.

Just nine fixtures into the top flight season, Ramsey has already been involved in the starting line-up only one time less than in the entirety of last term.

Although he was disappointed not to help instigate a comeback at Arsenal last Friday, the 20-year-old spoke of being pleased after grabbing his first Villa goal.

What has Ashley Preece said about Ramsey?

Preece has been impressed by Ramsey's development since being given more chances to shine on the big stage.

He believes the academy product has grown in confidence and is tipping the central midfielder to become more of a regular name on the scoresheet after breaking his duck at the Emirates Stadium.

Preece told GIVEMESPORT: "He looks every bit a Premier League player now.

"He's got that belief, he's taking risks and driving forward from midfield.

"He's got a good eye for a pass and he's got a goal in him."

Could Ramsey be a future England international?

It will be difficult for Ramsey to break into the heart of England's midfield anytime soon as he currently finds the likes of Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson ahead of him in the queue.

However, Smith has always had high hopes for Ramsey and even ear-marked him as "one for the future" following his first Premier League start against Wolverhampton Wanderers last December.

He has also been capped at England under-18, under-19 and under-20s level, with him scoring on his debut for the latter.

Ramsey then made the step up to the under-21s, with him playing the full 90 minutes in a European Championships qualifying stalemate against Slovenia earlier this month.
