Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has claimed that Oliver Skipp's involvement in the first-team at Tottenham this season is starting to get the best out of fellow midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Skipp, who is valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, spent last season on loan at Norwich in the Championship, but has since returned to the top-flight, and has settled back in quickly.

What's the latest news on Skipp and Hojbjerg?

Hojbjerg has played every minute of Tottenham's Premier League campaign thus far, and he was paired with Skipp at the heart of the midfield for the first four games.

This partnership worked well initially, as Spurs won their opening three matches, but they were then beaten 3-0 by Crystal Palace. Following that result, Skipp was dropped to the bench for the next two fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men lost both of those matches as well, though, forcing the Portuguese coach to have a re-think about his best starting XI.

He has opted to move back to playing Skipp and Hojbjerg together, and this seems to have worked particularly well for the Dane. He has been more effective in recent weeks, scoring at home to Villa, and then delivering an assist in the team's away victory at Newcastle.

What has Bridge said about Skipp and Hojbjerg?

Bridge believes that the duo complement each other well, with Skipp happy to put in the hard yards that enable Hojbjerg to make an impact in the final third.

Speaking about Skipp's influence on Hojbjerg, Bridge told GIVEMESPORT: “He does the ugly stuff well, which sometimes allows Hojbjerg to push forward, and we saw that with that lovely through ball to Kane [against Newcastle].”

Is Skipp and Hojbjerg's the best midfield pairing at Tottenham?

Spurs do have a number of midfielders who could partner Hojbjerg. England international Harry Winks is an option, Giovani Lo Celso can cover that role, and Tanguy Ndombele played in that position regularly last term.

However, Skipp is the player who seems to give the side the best balance in midfield. Last month, Nuno went with Ndombele and Dele Alli playing with Hojbjerg against Arsenal, and it left Tottenham horribly open.

Since then, he has taken a more conservative approach and reinstated Skipp, which former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp feels has made a major difference.

Skipp is by no means the most eye-catching player at Spurs, but he is willing to do the 'dirty work', and his positional sense appears to be getting better and better. If Tottenham are to have a relatively successful season, it seems likely that he will have an important role to play in it.
