Arsenal are through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Mikel Arteta's side defeated Leeds United 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening thanks to second half goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah.

Amazingly, Chambers' goal came just 23 seconds after he replaced Ben White, who had to leave the field of play with an injury issue.

The Gunners made a number of changes from the team that emphatically beat Aston Villa last Friday, with Nicolas Pepe one of the players brought in.

It was a game in which the Ivorian needed to perform in order to stake a claim to be in Arteta's first-choice XI. Sadly, he failed to have the desired impact.

Pepe was deployed in his favoured right-wing role, but couldn't get the better of Leeds' Stuart Dallas on a consistent basis.

Pepe in action for Arsenal

The former Lille man was often far too predictable and in the first half, he summed up his Arsenal career so far with a hilarious dribble attempt.

Pepe picked up the ball near the touchline and it initially looked as if the winger was going to get the better of two Leeds players and create a chance for a teammate.

But as he approached the penalty area, the 26-year-old stumbled on the ball and then fell to the turf in a rather comical manner.

Take a look at the incident here...

At least you tried, Nicolas.

There was hope among Arsenal fans that Pepe would finally begin to live up to his £72 million price tag this season, as he enjoyed a stellar end to the 2020/21 campaign.

The often hit and miss winger scored five goals in the space of three Premier League games, including braces against both Crystal Palace and Brighton.

But that sporadic showing of quality hasn't materialised into consistent top-level form so far in 2021/22, with Pepe netting just one goal in his seven appearances across all competitions.
