Max Verstappen v Lewis Hamilton: Martin Brundle says US GP result could be pivotal in title fight

Martin Brundle has suggested in his regular Sky Sports column that the result of the US Grand Prix last weekend could end up proving pivotal in terms of deciding this season's Formula 1 world championship.

Max Verstappen led home Lewis Hamilton by a narrow margin in Austin on Sunday with the Dutchman doing really well to eke out his older tyres compared to his British title rival to ensure he took an important 25 points.

Indeed, writing for Sky Sports, Brundle is of the opinion that that could be what helps decide the destination of this year's championship come the end of the campaign:

"I have no doubt that Sunday's USA GP will be considered a significant pivot point when eventually looking back at this year's outstanding world championship.

"A great duel between two brilliant drivers at the top of their game, it was effectively a 14-point swing for whoever won between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen."

The final laps of the Grand Prix made for thrilling viewing and both drivers deserve enormous credit once again for putting on a show.

It was Verstappen who emerged victorious, though, and he now has a 12-point lead with five races to go in the season.
