Emma Raducanu won her first-ever game in a WTA Tour event to claim her first victory since her historic triumph at the US Open last month. The Brit battled back from a set down, to beat Slovenia’s Polona Hercog 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 and set up a clash with Ana Bogdan of Romania. While the teenager showed impressive fight and composure to overcome some visible nerves in the first two sets, it was her post-match interview that has wowed fans around the world.Raducanu’s mother was born in Shenyang, China, and her father grew up in Bucharest, Romania. Because of this, the Brit is fluent in English, Romanian and Mandarin. The 18-year-old showed off her trilingualism after her win against Hercog, effortlessly switching from English to Romanian.ENTER GIVEAWAYENTER GIVEAWAY“It means a lot to play in my Dad’s country,” she said in Romanian.“Today was a really tough match. She [Hercog] was really strong. I don’t think I played that good, but I won. I am really happy right now. I want to thank you all, the tournament is very well organised.”Taking to Twitter later that evening, Raducanu wrote in English: “Super happy to get my first ever WTA win today.”She followed this by writing: “Multumesc mult si, te iubesc,” which translates as “Thank you very much and I love you.”Fans have lauded Raducanu’s language skills and described her as a “great ambassador” for the sport.“The simple fact is this young woman is amazing and a great ambassador for the sport. Love it. What a fabulous young star,” one wrote on Twitter.

Though Raducanu came through the final set in fine style, she was made to work hard by Hercog and won a gruelling second set in over an hour, having faced break point at 4-4 on her own serve.

The US Open champion suffered a shock defeat to Aliaksandra Sasnvich at Indian Wells and it appeared another upset might be on the cards at one stage, only for the Brit to rally and find her best level.

Next up for Raducanu is Bogdan, who defeated Serbia’s Ivana Jorović in straight sets.

The British number one is now just two wins away from the semi-finals, where a match against idol Simona Halep beckons.
