Damon Hill feels that the title is currently going in the direction of Max Verstappen with the Dutchman extending his lead in the F1 world championship to twelve points at the US Grand Prix.

The title fight the Red Bull man and Lewis Hamilton have had this season has been engrossing and with five races to go, we're still none the wiser, really, as to who is going to be crowned champion at the end of it.

Verstappen, though, is obviously in the stronger position as things stand with him leading the standings by twelve points after keeping a hard-charging Hamilton at bay in the final laps of the US Grand Prix on Sunday.

Of course, there are plenty of twists and turns surely still set to play out in the final five races and 1996 champion Hill is all too aware of that, but he does feel that Verstappen is currently looking in decent shape to take his maiden title:

“I would never declare this a foregone conclusion at this stage of the season,” Hill said on Sky Sports.

“There are so many mishaps that happen in our sport and 25 points on the table for a victory but nothing if you don’t finish, and that can obviously happen.

“[Hamilton] really has to start winning again. It’s eight versus five in victories to Max, so it’s looking like Max’s title at the moment."
