Tottenham latest news: £18m star 'needs a fresh start' after damning Nuno decision

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has urged Harry Winks to leave Tottenham and make a 'fresh start' elsewhere.

Winks has played just 61 minutes in the Premier League and hasn't featured since the 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace in early-September.

With that in mind, Bridge reckons that the England midfielder needs to move on from his boyhood club.

What's the latest news with Winks?

The 25-year-old was once a guaranteed starter at Tottenham and a regular in the England set-up.
But the last 15 months have been some of the most challenging in his career having played mainly in Europe and the domestic cups.

In fact, since dropping out of the starting XI under Jose Mourinho, Winks hasn't been able to win his place back despite the managerial change, making just seven league starts since October 2020.

He simply hasn't been able to rediscover his best form and his performance in the Europa Conference League against Vitesse last Thursday was a painful reminder of his current level.

Winks was one of Tottenham's most experienced players in Holland but failed to give Nuno food for thought ahead of the West Ham game on Sunday and instead was dropped entirely from the squad.

According to The Athletic, Winks' fortunes aren't set to change anytime soon, with the midfielder expected to left out of the squad that travel to Burnley tonight in the Carabao Cup.

He said after the Vitesse loss that he "wants to play regularly" and has been linked with Newcastle, according to The Sun.

And Bridge thinks that the best scenario for the Three Lions international is a move away from north London.

What did Bridge say?

When asked about Winks' future, the Sky Sports reporter told GIVEMESPORT: "I just look at Harry Winks and think that he definitely needs a fresh start."

What does the future hold for Winks at Tottenham?

Winks, valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, found himself in a similar situation last season, but with Spurs still fighting on all four fronts, Mourinho blocked any potential January move.

But with the midfielder not even being considered in Carabao Cup matches anymore, his position at the club would appear uncertain.

An injury to either Oliver Skipp or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could see a route back in, but a switch away from the club in January is surely close to the top of his Christmas wish list this year.
