UFC 271: When Is Israel Adesanya’s Next Fight?

Here is everything you need to know about Israel Adesanya's next fight

Israel Adesanya is the king of the Middleweight division in UFC, but when will the ‘Last Stylebender’ be fighting next?

Adesanya’s last contest saw him defend his 185-pound gold against Marvin Vettori at UFC 263, after unsuccessfully going for champ-champ status against Light Heavyweight king Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 in March 2021.

Here’s everything you need to know about Israel Adesanya’s next fight in the UFC.

Adesanya had been touted for a potential move back up to Light Heavyweight, however, he will need to defend his 185-pound belt until he can do so.

UFC President Dana White confirmed that Adesanya will be defending his Middleweight Championship once again in 2022.

When Does Israel Adesanya Fight Next?

Adesanya is scheduled to fight Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 in February 2022 as his next fight.

White confirmed that the Middleweight Champion will be putting his gold on the line in the main event of the show, although the actual venue for the event has not yet been confirmed publicly.

Here is the current rumoured card for UFC 271:

  • Douglas Silva de Andrade vs Sergey Morozov
  • AJ Dobson vs Jacob Malkoun
  • Kyler Phillips vs Marcelo Rojo
  • Alexander Hernandez vs Renato Moicano

Adesanya has said that he wants to ‘lap’ the Middleweight division so that he can be classed as a legend in the sport.

“Let me lap the division again. Until then, I am nobody. A legend one day” Adesanya wrote on Instagram in response to a fan saying he is already considered one of the greats.

Defeating Whittaker would certainly help Adesanya on his way to ‘lapping’ the Middleweight division, even though he already defeated him back in 2019.

Marvin Vettori is being considered as the backup for the fight should either Whittaker or Adesanya not be able to make the contest.

The UFC President gave his assessment of Vettori after he defeated Paulo Costa at UFC FIght Night, after the fight had to be started with a significant weight advantage to Costa at around 205lbs.

“Listen, he’s brilliant to take that fight,” White said of Vettori. “First of all, he’s a stud. The guy isn’t afraid of anybody or any circumstances. He showed up to fight no matter what the weight was gonna be. Didn’t let any of that stuff get in his head.

“Stayed cool, calm and composed the entire week. And, what it did for him, it probably made him the #2 ranked guy in the world.”
