Cesc Fabregas: Former Arsenal & Chelsea star names Premier League man as toughest ever opponent

The Premier League has been graced by some of the silkiest Spaniards over the years.

The likes of Fernando Torres, David Silva, Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla immediately spring to mind but there is perhaps one man who stands above the rest.

Cesc Fabregas was a truly special player during his time in England while wearing the red of Arsenal and the blue of Chelsea.

His jaw dropping touch and supreme vision made him an absolute joy to watch but, and, as you can imagine, an even greater joy to play with.

Having made his debut for the Gunners at Highbury, the Spaniard would go on to play a part in some very special Arsenal sides as he grew from strength to strength in the game.

Fabregas would make 304 appearances for the north London club, scoring 57 goals and registering a whopping 96 assists.

However, it was at Chelsea where he enjoyed the most success in terms of silverware, winning two league titles and a league cup during his spell with the Blues.

18 years to the day since he made his debut for Arsenal, Fabregas conducted a Q&A with his followers on Twitter, opening the floor to questions about his brilliant career.

One question in particular caught the eyes of fans as Fabregas named the toughest opponent he has ever faced during his lengthy time at the top of the game.

Now, having made 350 appearances in the Premier League alone, you can imagine that Cesc would've come up against his fair share of 'tough as nails' footballers.

You can imagine then, that his answer would come as music to the ears of Liverpool fans, with Fabregas quick to name the one and only Steven Gerrard in answer to the query.

The pair were both at the peak of their powers during Fabregas' time on English shores and were locked in some epic battles.

While Gerrard may not have gone on to achieve the kind of trophy haul that Fabregas did, there can be no denying that he was one of the greatest English players to grace the league.

Elsewhere, Fabregas left Gunners fans with a smile on their face as he named Alexander Hleb as the most under appreciated player he ever played alongside.
