Granada's Luis Suarez took possibly the worst penalty in football history on Thursday evening.

Suarez was in the starting lineup for his side's La Liga clash against Getafe at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

Getafe took the lead in the 36th minute when Enes Unal found the back of the net.

The home side had a golden opportunity to restore parity when they were given a penalty with just under 15 minutes.

Suarez, who has two goals to his name this season, stepped up.

But he got completely under the ball and his effort went flying well above the bar.

That is an absolute shocker. That wouldn't have gone in even if there were another two goals on top of the goal.

If he was playing Rugby it would have been a perfect conversion. Unfortunately, he was playing football.

Suarez immediately looked down to the ground and, to be fair, the penalty spot did look a little cut up.

But, regardless, it's still embarrassing to have missed the goal by that much from 12 yards out.

Fortunately for Suarez, Jorge Molina was able to equalise for the home side with virtually the last kick of the game.

Granada have moved out of the relegation zone and up to 17th, having picked up eight points from their opening 10 games.

Getafe, meanwhile, remain winless in La Liga and are routed to the bottom of the table.
