Leeds latest news: Marcelo Bielsa decisions 'affected' by major Elland Road problem

Reporter Joe Donnohue reckons that Leeds‘ injury list has been affecting Marcelo Bielsa’s team selections this season.

The Elland Road outfit have been unable to replicate their form from last season and are just three points above the relegation-zone after one victory from their opening nine league matches.

What is Leeds’ current injury situation?

Right now, Leeds’ absentee list has been reduced down to just four, which is far less than it has been recently, but at least three of those start in Bielsa’s best team.

The integral Kalvin Phillips returned to the side at Arsenal in midweek and having completed 90 minutes in the 2-0 loss, will now be targeting a return to the Premier League XI at Norwich on Saturday.

But, according to Leeds Live, Robin Koch, who hasn’t featured since the opening day, is expected to miss at least another three weeks having undergone surgery on a minor injury.

In better news Luke Ayling is closing in on a return following more than six weeks out with a knee problem, as is Patrick Bamford, whose stop-start season has seen him to score just once in the league.

Another recent absentee has been summer signing Junior Firpo, whose absence has forced Stuart Dallas to return to left-back, but he could also be back for the trip to Norwich this weekend.

With that news in mind, it appears that Bielsa’s problems are slowly improving, which means he might be able to field his best team in the coming weeks, but Donnohue reckons that their injuries have been causing difficulties for the Argentine.

What did Donnohue say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think that injuries have affected the teams that Bielsa has been able to put out. There have been very few Premier League games this season where he’s been able to field a full XI.”

Is Leeds’ form likely to improve?

Even when they had a fully fit squad at the beginning of the season, their results were poor, so it would be wrong to suggest that they’re suddenly going to start winning every game now players are returning.

Did Luke Ayling score on his Premier League debut for Leeds United?

But having someone like Bamford back in their ranks will not only provide a focal point in their attack but it should enhance their goal threat having scored just three times in five games in his absence.

Furthermore, Ayling and Firpo coming back will not only allow Dallas to play in his best position, but will add genuine quality to a Leeds defence that has kept one clean sheet all season.
