Kayla Harrison is rapidly ascending to the top of the tree when it comes to the world of combat sports.
Often likened to the iconic Ronda Rousey, the Ohio-born fighter boasts an impressive CV, including back-to-back Olympic gold medals in judo and an unbeaten MMA record.
However, unlike Rousey, Harrison has no intentions of plying her trade as a wrestler.
Rousey, who won the WWE Raw Women's Championship in 2018, is regarded as one of the most iconic female wrestlers of recent years.
She made history as the first woman to ever win a championship and headline a pay-per-view event for both WWE and UFC.
Harrison has followed a similar path to Rousey – competing at the Olympic Games as a judoka before starting a career in mixed martial arts. She also looked to mirror her compatriot's switch to wrestling when she made an appearance on All Elite Wrestling as part of Dan Lambert’s American Top Team.
But her experience with the company turned out to be an underwhelming one.
Harrison has since completely trashed AEW in a savage interview with Jim Varsallone.
"I mean, yeah, do you have fun when you go pick on the little kid at the playground? Secretly, you have a little bit of fun, it’s just so easy, it’s just a bunch of nerds and losers who couldn’t hack it in my sport so they decided to go and do a fake sport," she said.
"I can’t believe I let Dan [Lambert] talk me into it, it’s just boring, it would be too easy to crush them... Obviously I would be great at whatever I do. But this is what I told Dan, and don’t get upset but I have worked hard my whole life to get out of the trailer park, so why would I want to be the entertainment for the trailer park?
"I am sorry, AEW, it’s just that I do a real sport with real winners and losers and it’s not scripted. No one is going to tell me whose ass I am going to kick, if I’m going to kick, I’m going to kick whose ass I want to kick. Tony Khan’s not going to tell me what to do, Dan Lambert’s not going to tell me what to do."
There may be similarities between Rousey and Harrison's past achievements, but there's a very slim chance of fans seeing the latter on a wrestling roster any time soon.
